Game Of Thrones, Fear And Blood!

Yup, I had a feeling this would happen . . . and I wasn't disappointed! Just before last night's airing of Big Love, HBO showed yet another new trailer from the upcoming tv show I've been driving you all crazy about these past couple of months.

Ooooh -- I think this is the best one yet! It shows you just how dark and gritty the source material can be at times. More focus is placed on the Wall, the Wildlings, and the Others (aka "White Walkers") to the North. But we also get glimpses of Winterfell, the Red Keep, Pentos -- and hey, a Varys sighting! He's the fat, bald-headed dude speaking to Ned at the 1:01 minute mark. Nicknamed "The Spider," Varys is the spy master to the King, collecting all the choice secrets and dealings going on behind the walls of the Red Keep and beyond.

And of course I'm loving Queen Cersei's devilish delivery of the line: "When you play the game of thrones you win . . . or you die!"

Aw hell. Just check out the footage for yourself already, dammit! :)

(Click here for the Youtube link if the above video doesn't work for you.)

"I'll kill them . . . Ned Stark, the King--the whole bloody lot of them!--until you and I are the only people left in this world."

And before I forget, here's the official poster for the show, released just a few days ago:

Ah, PERFECT!!!!

  2. Really? I didn't hear anything about this. I know there's a 15-minute preview of the pilot episode coming on April 3rd. Let me check out my sources and get to the bottom of this . . .

Although, I'm actually avoiding any prolonged glimpses until April 17 when the show actually premieres. Teasers and trailers are enough for me for now.

  3. Yeah, it was long, 10 minutes or so but I was working on charts (market stuff) so I only half watched.

  4. Sometimes "teasers" and "previews" are enough and can build up the anticipation.

  5. I know, that's how I feel. I don't want to see any advanced peeks of the actual episodes. I can wait until the premiere date. I like being surprised. :)

  6. My daughter likes that Big Love. Not me. But my husband said, "Hey this Thrones show looks like it's going to be good."

I had already heard of it - thanks to you.

  7. I am seriously wanting this to get started!!! It looks epic. HBO puts out some great stuff--the Mildred Pierce mini-series looks good. I loved the original film, and Kate Winslet is one of my favorite actresses. I'm super anxious for True Blood to start up again.

Until then, how is Big Love gonna end?

  8. I don't know about Big Love. I used to like this show a lot, but for some reason the previous season was hard to get through. And right now, it feels like I'm only watching this current and final season just to get closure.

Oh, and I so can't wait for True Blood to start up. Personally, I think this is going to be the best next 6 months or so ever on tv. First Game of Thrones, and then True Blood. Plus, Camelot on Starz (saw the pilot episode -- very, very good) and The Borgias on Showtime.

Wow, April is going to be a great month for subscriber-based premium cable tv!

  9. Hey man! Been mega busy at work and then second work (markets are wild right now) but wanted to say hello. When Gabriel Burn said in Excalibur "nobody shall have the sword but me!!' and put it in the stone, awesome!

  10. I know! That *was* awesome. I had a kick watching the movie on Blu-ray over the weekend. Although, now that I'm older, I just realized how utterly stupid and ridiculous the combat choreography was in this film. I mean, DAMN! I thought I was watching Monty Python, LOL!

But I had a major Highlander freak out moment when the adult Arthur showed up and I went -- HOLY SHIT, that's Gabriel Piton! The murderous Immortal fashion designer from "Eye of the Beholder" in the 1st season! I looked it up, and sure enough -- it was the same actor! Wow, so much younger of course. But as soon as he drew the sword from the stone and they did a close-up shot of his face, I knew it! Heck, I've only seen that episode like, literally, 20 times already. :)

  11. Ha! Sir Nigel Terry himself, I figured you would have known that one. Liam Neeson is in it too among many others.

  12. Looks pretty cool, David. Epic fantasy with dark intrigue. A lot like Tudor England, in fact :D
If only history lessons were that exciting.

  13. GYC -- The last time I watched Excalibur was actually *before* Highlander: The Series aired. So, yes, I wouldn't have known who Nigel Terry was back then. And I recognized a few people I didn't expect to see in there: Patrick Stewart, Liam Neeson, Gabriel Byrne, and Helen Mirren -- back before they were anybodies. Wow! :)

Ian -- Yes, there are a ton of parallels between the book series and Western European history, especially in the area of the British Isles. But ain't that usually the case in epic fantasies? The Lannister family using the fact that one of their daughters is married to the King to further their own political goals is very much a mirror of the Boleyn family maneuvering in Henry VIII's England.

  14. Yeah, I actually remarked upon that myself. I have a keen interest in swords, and I totally geeked out over the fact that they got Ice right. A huge weapon like that could only be used for executions, and rightfully so. I also loved how Sean Bean was able to so perfectly capture the essence of Eddard in that quick scene we see of him cleaning Ice by the hearttree in the Godswood. Squee!

Oh, and better believe it I'm gearing up for the release of A Dance With Dragons. I so can't WAIT!!!

Hey, checked out your site btw. Very, very nice. Or, as Sean Bean would say: "Tasteh!" :) I'll be keeping an eye on it in the next coming weeks.
